Sidney WALKER, 1909 – 1970

Sidney Gordon was born on the 1st of June 1909 at 11 Tweenbrook Avenue Gloucester. His father was Charles Lindsay Walker, a Machine Fitter at the Gloucester Wagon Works. His mother was Annie Sarah Jane Sargent, the daughter of Charles Sargent, a ginger beer maker who had been blind since his childhood. Her mother was Mary Ann Hamlet.

In the 1911 census he was found at 11 Tweenbrook Avenue Gloucester, with his two elder sisters and elder brother.

He trained as a teacher and in 1939 he is showing at 235 Waddon Park Avenue, Croydon as the lodger of Mr & Mrs Killick. He was working as a primary school teacher.

In the following year, on the second of March, he married Phyllis Jane English a Staff Hospital Nurse and daughter of John English a Coal Hewer. She was working and living at Long Grove Hospital, Epsom. He gave the address as 85 Waddon Park Avenue, Croydon, so it is likely that this became the family home.

They had two daughters:

·         Mary, born in the third quarter of 1944

·         Pauline, born in the second quarter of 1947

In the second quarter of 1970, Sidney died in Kensington.
